This was a gamble. Saki didn’t know how Jin was going to react. She doubted it would be anything receptive.
To Jin this was nothing more than his job, it was clear as day. Why would a man like him ever be happy to receive a kiss from a girl such as her?
Despite all of her efforts, she couldn’t ignore the fire that burned deep inside. As much as it being there in the first place annoyed her to absolutely no end.
For months Jin was nothing more than a man who frustrated her.
He was a vehicle for orders to be delivered. Cold and curt. Vanishing without a trace once his duties were fulfilled. Having no regard for Saki’s emotions. Sending a young girl into countless deadly missions alongside seeing multiple peers around her die time and time again. Even using her mother as leverage to get her to do her job. It was cruel, and this method worked without fail.
To possess feelings of desire, even the very beginning of the rosebuds of love for such a man—it felt absurd.
Were feelings such as these ever rooted in logic? Overhearing the hushed whispers of her classmates, this all sounded par for the course.
Had she ever felt such a way about a man before, or anyone for that matter? Her youth had been colored by trauma and tragedy. Countless fights with other delinquents in the back alleyways during and after school hours. There were no opportunities for love.
Sukebans didn’t have time or chances to indulge in such feelings. It was all something for the normal folk. Those who went down the path of normality were allowed to take part in the whims of youth. The life of any delinquent could never afford such a luxury.
Though Saki was so much more than a mere sukeban at this point. A nebulous mixture of detective, sukeban, and someone who would bring corruption to its knees. Her circumstances were far from normal. And they could never be truly normal ever again, even when this will be said and done.
Despite all of that, she was still a seventeen year old girl at the core of it all.
Perhaps the years of youth that she had missed began to catch up to her.
Alighting the kindle deep inside that remained dormant, and began the start of a fire. A fire that Saki would find harder and harder to repress. Something that at one point or another, the urges to act upon them she couldn’t fight. As much as she wanted to.
She sat atop of her bed. Staring down at her clenched fists, fingers gripping the ends of her long skirt. Saki could feel the pounding of her heart. The wall clock ticked and ticked. Rays of sun beamed onto the bowl of fruit on the table. Blood roared in her ears as she waited for Jin to arrive.
He would always come. There were always new orders for her to be given and made to follow. This was guaranteed.
A knock on the door, and Saki’s heart stopped.
“Who is it?” She asked, sounding frustrated. Having these feelings at all were the source of her tone. Even if she asked, deep inside she knew.
It was Jin.
Slowly the door opened, and there he was. His tall, lean figure. A handsome face that was easy on the eyes. Wearing the same suit he always did. Jin’s steps were quiet and controlled.
Glancing up and down at him, he always towered over her. And that was another source of frustration, as well as a growing excitement from the fact.
That feeling was a new one.
A passing thought of his height compared to hers, her fists clenched even harder. A slight warmth spread across her cheeks, and even more frustration burned alongside the fire of passion. Both fires blazed in tandem. Perhaps feeding each other along the way.
Saki shook her head. Clearing any thoughts from her mind and glared at Jin.
His face remained as cool, collected, and devoid of emotion as ever.
Beats of silence, before he pulled out a cassette tape. “Your new orders.”
She listened quietly as the Director spoke about her new mission. Fighting all of the emotions inside of her with vigor as she tried to pay attention. In the end her ability to focus won, but it could only stand at the top for so long.
Something was amiss at an all-girls school across the city. Rumors of teachers leaving with girls at the end of the day, only for the pairs to end up dead not long after. As usual, her mission was to immerse herself in this environment and get to the bottom of it.
No doubt the Mizuchi family had something to do with this. So much corruption, blood, and lost lives both young and old, tied back right to them. A family whose name reeked of death to those who knew.
Jin popped out the tape, “This is your mission. We’ve already got you inside their system and secured your uniform. You will start attending tomorrow.” There was a slight darkness in his eyes, a rare sense of emotion that leaked through to the surface. Something Saki did not expect to see. “…Be wary of the teachers there. Keep a close eye on them.”
His voice was as curt as usual, with a tinge of genuine concern.
This shook Saki to her very core. To hear Jin be concerned for her awakened something Saki didn’t know she had possessed inside.
Dammit! She couldn’t take this anymore. Why must this man continue to make her feel so many things?! Emotions that were all so new to her and confusing!
Blood continued to roar in her ears as she swiftly stood up and stormed her way over to Jin. In a rare moment of its own, taking him by complete surprise.
She yanked him by the tie, pulling Jin down to her level. His eyes widened. Her heart pounded like it never had before.
Saki pressed her lips against Jin’s and initiated a kiss. She could tell Jin was shocked, he uncharacteristically was delayed in response.
Taking advantage of this, Saki slightly sucked the bottom of his lip. She’d seen couples kiss like this in movies and tv shows. For sure her attempt wasn’t far from well done due to the lack of experience. But regardless of that fact—it felt good.
It felt so, so good to indulge in her desires.
There was a part of her that feared Jin’s response, knowing doing something such as this was bold and risky. There was another part of her that was pissed Jin made her feel like this at all.
But the feeling of giving into her youthful whims… It was addictive. Intoxicating.
The kiss only lasted for a few seconds in reality. In Saki’s eyes, in her world—it felt as if it lasted forever.
She savored the feeling of another man’s lips against hers. Fulfilling a milestone for many around her age: To have her very first kiss. Jin’s lips were warm and soft. A strong contrast to how he had always presented himself.
Once Saki let go of his tie and stepped back, she wanted for whatever Jin was going to do. Most likely slap her for such an inappropriate move.
There was a strong sense of satisfaction inside of her for having experienced a kiss with Jin, it radiating across her heart like a warm blanket. This frustrated her at the same time too.
Jin slowly bent back up with that same shocked look on his face. Lasting a few more seconds before he snapped out of it, and coughed.
It was evident he was caught one-hundred percent off guard and didn’t quite know how to respond. An incredibly rare sight. One Saki was sure she’d never see again after today.
Jin’s features became serious once more. Instead of scolding her, he promptly walked out of the room without saying another word. Not looking her in the eyes. Nor acknowledging what had just occurred between the two of them.
To see Jin act in such a way was surprising. Yet humanizing as well, strangely enough.
Her fingers reached her lips, touching them softly. Lips that had finally kissed another, and indulged in her growing desires. Warmth reached across her cheeks again. She was grateful Jin was gone and didn’t have to see her like this.
Would she ever act on these feelings again? Would they be satisfied now that she had got what she wanted?
Only time would tell.
Saki hoped for her sake that this would be more than enough. She couldn’t take dealing with more complicated emotions sprouted by youth.
End Notes: I have a lot of thoughts about Sakijin, and I left Jin's reaction ambiguous on purpose mainly because I'm still figuring out in my head how I imagine Jin would deal with Saki having feelings for her. Or if he'd even have them back or if its an unrequited situation. It's fun to chew on!
