Summary: Saki didn’t know what exactly to think of Jin.
Also On: Ao3, Dreamwidth
Saki didn’t know what exactly to think of Jin.
Curtly delivering her orders, not a hint of warmth to his voice. She didn’t expect him to be the kindest person on the planet. This was his job. Nothing more than that. But it got grating how he was more fixated on the probability of issues, and would tell her to disregard her emotions.
How the hell could she possibly do that? Especially with so much on the line! Her mother was on death’s row. And all of the lives that had been lost along the way ever since she was made Sukeban Deka weighed on her shoulders. It was a heavy feeling.
Not to mention how he’d vanish without a trace. Like he was never there, fading into the wind. Most often when she had something else to ask. That was annoying too.
So just what was this pounding in her heart that had suddenly developed?
Saki remembered it clearly. When he left her after tending to that gunshot wound—something had changed between the two of them. The air had shifted.
In that moment he was kinder than usual. Only a little warmth was there. Though when you’re a man who is as cold as ice, even the smallest change is easy to detect.
There was a softness in his voice, even if some of his words were still harsh. His unwavering focus on removing that bullet. Delicate movements with the scalpel, it definitely wasn’t his first time removing a bullet from someone.
A part of her said this was a delusional thought. Jin was just doing his job. That is what this was to him, nothing more. It would never become anything more.
And the other part of Saki couldn’t ignore it all the same.
He didn’t have to do that. To come all that way deep into the forest, and save her life. Grasping her away from the claws of death with his own two hands. Jin or the Director could have sent anyone else to do such a task.
Jin went out of his way to do it himself. Even when in a delirious state this stuck out to her back there. She was grateful he saved her life, of course. But there was a burning desire inside to know: Why him? Why did Jin feel as if he had to do it, and not someone else?
Saki remembered how she felt when learning Sanpei didn’t stop him. Jin getting up and leaving always upset her… This was different.
Instead of feeling annoyed, she felt a pained sorrow in her chest. Stinging. Genuine.
Unlike anything else she’d felt before.
Her room was silent. The curtains were closed, and the lights turned off. Hand to her chest, Saki could feel the beat of her heart.
The image of Jin suddenly presented itself in her mind—and her heartbeat quickened. And the more she thought about how it was Jin who saved her life, it only started to go faster. Warmth slowly crept up to her cheeks.
She planted her head into her hands. Feeling her blush press up against her palms. Dammit…! Why did this have to happen now. Her? Have feelings for Jin?? All because he tended to her wounds?
Or was this feeling always there from the start, a seed that was rooted deep within her soul. Only just now starting to bloom.
Saki fell back onto her bed. Staring at the ceiling, her thoughts drifted back to Jin no matter what she did.
Maybe going to bed for the night would solve this. It was getting late. So much has happened recently. She needed rest. Yeah, a good night’s sleep would calm her down.
Only for these thoughts, these rapid beats of her heart—to continue the very next day.
End Notes: I do think Saki would be a bit "Shit. What the fuck." when she realizes she has feelings for Jin.
