Her father’s lab proved to be a good place for study sessions. They couldn’t always ask to use Kyoka’s lab after all, and it got a much needed cleaning up and reorganizing once Fuga came back into her life after Geryon’s defeat.

It wasn’t in the worst state while he was gone, it was still usable. But making him spruce the place up for her was just one of the many ways she was going to make her father pay her back for being absent for so long.

Hotaro’s eyes were wide as he took in the sight of everything in the room. All of the equipment, the countless amount of books, the diagrams framed against the walls… It was so cool! And it had a feeling all of its own compared to their classroom.

He had proved himself to be a skilled alchemist, he made an entire planet out of Geryon’s gold after all. In a way he had already reached big-shot alchemist status by that alone. But Hotaro still needed a lot of more formal training and lessons. There remained so much he needed to learn.

Now that capturing the chemies was no longer something they had to worry about, Minato-sensei finally began to have proper classes with them all again before Hotaro joined them.

Even with this, Rinne wanted to make sure he could put all of this information to good use and continued to hone his skills in the craft. Hence these study sessions.

Plus Rinne loved studying. And she had her own goals to achieve: To become a high alchemist, surpass her father, and bring back Atropos. Doing all this would benefit her as well. Her father possessed a lot of materials she’d always wanted to study, and now she finally had the chance.

And on top of all that, she’d get to spend some quality time with her best friend! So it was a win-win in many regards.

As he said back then, Alchemy was like cooking to Hotaro. It was the phrase that keyed Rinne in on what study methods would work best for him. Tonight they were going to focus on the combinations of certain alloys.

Hotaro’s eyes were still wide as he looked at the books Rinne brought out. They looked even older and fancier than the ones back at the academy, elaborate covers with hand crafted engravings laid across the leather.

He could barely contain his excitement!

Rinne smiled as she opened the book. “Alright Ichinose, are you ready?”

“You bet!”

“Let's start at page 34 then…”
