Summary: It had been a week since that fateful day.
Also On: Ao3, Dreamwidth
Shiro looked out to the ocean as waves crashed along the rocks at the shore. It had been a week since that fateful day. He felt a gaping emptiness inside of him with Hongo and Ichimonji gone, clawing away at his newfound circuitry.
They had saved his life. Grabbed and threw him right out of the jaws of death itself. And within him were their fingerprints. Powers he had still yet to learn, to master. Even if they were gone, their spirits were still with him in their own way.
But it still felt lonely. The other two who truly knew what it was like to live an existence like this… Were now gone.
Most of him clung to their words, their promise of return. But deep down inside there was a small, but loud part within him that worried if they ever truly would come back.
His body was now nothing like it used to be, say for his mind which remained intact. But even then, was he still truly Shiro Kazami? With so much of him now changed? Now cyborg instead of human?
He wasn’t sure.
Their words earlier when he pleaded to become a rider, began to ring true for Shiro as time passed on. To be a cyborg was an isolating existence. Despite this he didn’t regret it, without how he was now he would not be standing.
With this new body he was able to fight against Destron to save the world. As well as avenge his family.
Though that feeling of overwhelming loneliness remained. Shiro knew it would truly never go away. He would have to learn to live with it. Like it or not, this was now his life.
That was when a familiar voice called out to him from behind.
“Hey! There you are.” Tachibana smiled as he pulled in on his motorcycle.
“Pops?”
“Been looking for you all afternoon! Junko was wondering where you went off to.” He took off his helmet and went to stand next to Shiro at the breathtaking view of the sea.
“I see.” Shiro looked off into the distance again, and Tachibana saw that solemn look in his eye. Though it wasn’t hard to notice. Sorrow was plastered all over his face right now. He knew.
Placing a hand on Shiro’s shoulder, he could feel Shiro’s body begin to tense before slowly relaxing. “They’ll be back.”
Shiro looked at him. He said nothing, still visibly deep in thought.
Tachibana patted his shoulder. It was a kind touch, yet also firm and confident. “I have faith in their promise. And you should too.” His words had the same feeling as that touch just now. He had a feeling Shiro could use a bit of comfort and reassurance.
After all, he’d been through so much in such a short span of time.
“…You’re right. They definitely will be back some day.” Shiro smiled. “Thank you, Pops.”
He was grateful for Tachibana to be by his side throughout everything.
