Summary: As Geryon enters Lachesis' thoughts once more, she contemplates.

Also On: Ao3, Dreamwidth

Why was he in her thoughts? Why did this have to happen?

Just as Lachesis felt that a sense of peace and some semblance of humanity was finally at her fingertips, that she could finally start a brand new life — he had to come creeping back into her mind.

And thus, making his way straight back into her life.

Lachesis just stared out the window blankly. All color from her face was completely sapped from her features. She stared at the raindrops that slowly trailed their way down the glass, getting farther and farther away as they slid down. Deep down, she was envious of them and their freedom.

Another new emotion. Envy.

The more she thought about it, Lachesis was jealous of a lot of things. So many things in this world had freedom, the ability to take in the world at its fullest, to get away from where they once came from.

As time passed, what she once considered to be her home was now somewhere she hoped she’d never step foot in again.

She longed to get farther away from Geryon most of all. There was a part of her that still dearly missed her sisters. She still wasn’t pleased when Spanner called Clotho a monster. But even so… They were loyal to Geryon, and this toxic idea of a “family” to a fault. Lachesis could only hope that one day they might open their eyes.

To break them out was no longer her problem; it couldn’t be her problem. As painful as it was to admit it, that choice was entirely up to them.

And Lachesis, she was determined to break free.

But maybe freedom was not meant to be for her. To be merely nothing more than a doll, to never be able to break away from her origin, her fate. To be stuck with this “family”, if you could call it one — that was nothing but a complete pit of malice. Humanity, the key to her freedom, might have been something she could never achieve.

Freedom might have always been something that she wasn’t capable of.

Or even ever deserving of.

And after all she’d done, maybe that was what was coming for her.

What was previously hope and excitement was replaced with nothing but the feeling of dread. A weight within her core that felt like the whole planet was resting upon her back. It was only a matter of time until Geryon showed his face to her once more. As he continued to plague her thoughts, she was reminded more and more of being a “defective doll”.

Lachesis wanted nothing more than to never see him again if she could help it. That man… her “father”, as much as she pained to say it, terrified her like nothing else on earth.

She had seen countless horrific things. Hell, she had created countless things of that sort too. Back when she was with her sisters, when they all shared the same side. Following their father’s orders. Bending to each of his whims and furthering his plans. At his beck and call, even when he wasn’t present for a decade.

Though nothing could make her skin crawl like Geryon. Skin that she wasn’t entirely sure was even real. But the sensation was so very real.

Another emotion. Fear.

She was feeling more of the wide and varied spectrum of emotion, something she should be happy about. Another key to becoming human… But it wasn’t from anything she’d want to naturally experience them from. Such as that festival, or a story, everyday life.

Instead they were sourced from Geryon and his presence, the ever-looming threat of his return.

Emotions brought on about by her creator. Her father.

How cruel.

Was this how it was going to be? How it was meant to be?

Maybe she was just his creation in the end, a defective one at that. And nothing more.
