Notes: Done for the #FanPrompt game on fediverse! Prompt was ring. (Original)

Been busy juggling multiple wips getting them ready for events I'm doing in October + battling creative block, but wanted to do one of these old FanPrompt prompts since I've been wanting to do something for this game again for a while.

Will definitely do more with this concept between Atropos and Rinne in the future! Because I love the idea of Atropos having a sort of Parad-like situation going on with Rinne. Especially since after what she said after her and Rinne battled Gaelijah. So expect more of this concept from me eventually. Originally posted on 2024-09-25.

Summary: Rinne reads up, continuing to try and find a way to bring Atropos back into the world.

Fingers flipped through pages as Rinne read through the old alchemical texts. All of the equipment, sourced from her father's collection just like the books, surrounded her and had vibrant liquids that bubbled about.

She glanced at the ring on her hand, the one of a brilliant gold and black combination that shone under the dim lights of the study. Looking at it always stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within. Grief, joy, the longing to see a friend once more…

That was when she heard a voice suddenly speak up, “Determined as ever, huh Rinne-chan?”

It was Atropos.

She was still no longer of this earth, and now one with Rinne's body and spirit. But Rinne had found out that Atropos had come across a way to form what could best be described as some sort of ghost that could walk around and talk to her. As well as her being able to speak to Rinne within her mind, like she was doing right now. Only Rinne was able to hear her when she was not in her ghost form.

The phenomenon began not long after Ichinose created that brand new earth. She remembered the first time she heard Atropos speak to her once more after her death. When she was deep in some woodlands with Unicon, continuing to survey the land of this mysterious planet forged by the powers of alchemy.

Which begged the question: Was it alchemy, or something completely different that was how Atropos was able to do this? Did something on this new earth trigger the occurrence?

The pair weren't entirely sure.

But it was no doubt an interesting experience to Rinne nonetheless. And Atropos wasn't complaining either. Though it was still lonely without her sisters around.

There was still so much that was unknown about this occurrence. As far as she and her father knew, this was something completely unprecedented in the alchemist world. But she wanted to find out more. It could all be the first step to actually bring Atropos and her sisters back.

Rinne began to talk back to her. “Progress won't be made if I just sit around.”

Atropos' ghost suddenly manifested, sitting on a table across the room. “You really are an interesting one… Why go through such trouble for me and my sisters? Especially after all we did?”

“Because you're my friend Atropos. And I know you'd like to be with them again too.” Rinne looked up with a smile.

Atropos had a tiny smile of her own. “I certainly don't abhor you anymore, but you and humans as a whole still confuse me.”

Even if they were friends now, Atropos was still herself in many other ways. Rinne couldn't help but laugh a little. “That's the thing about humans sometimes. We do things that might only make sense to us.”

“It seems so.”

To never give up, to persist. To see through one's own desires to the end, and make them into reality was something very human. And that exactly was what Rinne was going to do.
