Takes place during episode 47, I've been rotating a scene where Minato tries to stop Spanner on his own (to no avail) in my head, so this was a perfect chance for that! Originally posted on 2024-09-08.
Summary: Minato tries to stop Spanner's plan.

Minato gripped the collar of Spanner’s jacket, and hard as he tried to walk away. Both of his hands trembled at every step. After learning what Lachesis told them all… How could he not?
He didn’t want Spanner to run away. To carry on with such a dangerous plan. Risking his life by doing something so reckless. There surely had to be another way to take care of everything. To defeat the Abyssalis Kings. To somehow improve relations between alchemist’s relations between the common folk, to clear the names of the chemy.
There had to be something, he didn’t know what. But he believed in Ichinose and the others to find a way through all of this. With time, an answer would show itself. This he knew.
But time was something Spanner clearly thought they had run out of.
He had to reach him somehow.
Minato’s eyes were wide as his body continued to shake. “Spanner… Please. Listen to me. You can’t go through with this!” The thought of losing him was too much to bear. He had to find a way to stop him…!
“It’s what must be done.” He remained steadfast in what he set out to do. Normally this was something Minato loved about Spanner.
His commitment to doing what he felt was right, and how he’d never give up. And always remaining firm with his beliefs. Never in a million years did Minato think this trait of Spanner’s would be something that filled him with nothing but absolute dread one day.
Simultaneously Minato’s brain was blank, but also racing with countless thoughts. Spanner was dead set on this. Entangled deep within the swirl of emotions he felt about this entire situation. And to sacrifice his own life for what he believed was for the greater good of this world.
He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know what he could do.
Without another word, Minato pulled Spanner’s jacket forward as he pulled him in for a desperate kiss. And one that would hopefully not be their last.
Surprisingly, Spanner reciprocated it. Gently kissing back for a few moments before pulling away. That look of love but also sadness in his eyes pierced straight through Minato’s heart.
“I’m sorry, Senpai.” Spanner spoke, his voice tinged with regret as he pulled away. With that same look in his eyes, he pulled out Sasukemaru and put the card into the chemy riser. Vanishing without a trace within moments.
Minato’s hand curled into a fist, tears beginning to well up at his eyes. He knew he’d done all he could.
It was up to Ichinose and the others to stop Spanner now.
