Summary: Spanner and Minato have to attend a yearly Alchemist Association gala to stay in the good graces of the council. As the night goes on, Minato gets... distracted.

Also On: Ao3, Dreamwidth

Once every year the council would hold a special gala for those who worked in the Alchemist Association. It was always an extravagant affair. A secret venue decorated from top to bottom, and alchemists stationed from across the entire world would gather for this event.

It was always well organized, which was a shocking thing given how rather disorganized and incompetent the council was even on the best of days outside of this one instance… But that was a comment Minato and Spanner would save for behind closed doors, and far, far away from the ears of their higher ups.

Spanner was not enthused about going, even though formal events were something he was used to attending. He went to many alongside Kyoka growing up, since her prowess in mechanics would get her invited to several each year. Though at some point along the way when she grew more distant from the council, she’d stop going to them.

But when he started working for the Association after graduation he began to go to them on his own.

Working under the council had always been something of a chore. They’d always worked him like a dog. He moved on one job for them to the next and would only be given the most basic of thanks. Even if his life was put on the line, which it most often was.

But they had especially gotten under his skin over this past year. He could not and refused to forget their neglect when Dread first entered the scene, and what happened to Sabimaru. How they were okay with leaving a student in need to die, one of the most skilled in the whole academy no less.

It was irresponsible and downright appalling.

That didn’t even begin to get into how he and Minato were treated. And how anything that they brought up to them was shot down without a second thought.

They were completely fine with sitting up in their ivory tower. Giving no regard to the reality of any situation, leaving those beneath them to handle things all on their own. All the while berating those who weren’t efficient enough, or those who they thought would dare to speak against them.

Even though what they counted as “speaking against them” was suggestions to make things better. Spanner was completely fed up with things and expressed his desire to not attend.

Minato completely understood and even agreed with this mindset of his. While he entertained the idea of not going himself, he knew the two of them refusing to go would only look bad given their consistent attempted arguments against the council for their neglect over various topics.

For the sake of staying in their good graces, Minato insisted that they had to attend anyway.

Despite how Spanner felt, and how much he wanted to argue back, he ultimately agreed with this as well. He knew how petty the council could get. And how they would go out of their way to make the lives of anyone they felt slight them a living hell.

It was honestly a miracle that the two of them hadn’t officially gotten themselves on their shitlist by now.

But while Spanner understood that he had to go, it didn’t mean he had to like it. Minato felt similarly.

When the night of the gala arrived, the pair prepared for the event in Spanner’s apartment. Minato showed up early, well dressed and in his best formal alchemist robes alongside his suit. As he waited for Spanner to get ready he already began to feel the dread of going begin to seep in.

To keep up formalities was a skill he learned and mastered over the years. Nodding in agreement as he picked the right words to keep his bosses and alchemists in a position of power happy, or at least content.

It was going to be so boring. He could already tell.

Minato told himself to just grin and bear it for the many hours they’d be there, and then it would all be over. They wouldn’t have to worry about it for a whole year after that.

That’s when Spanner stepped out of his room. Donning a suit and the cape of a master level alchemist, wearing the formal attire that would be required for such an event. It wasn’t Spanner’s usual style. He wasn’t entirely opposed to dressing like this, but it was never his go-to outfit. Always having preferred the leather he’d typically wear, even in the summer heat.

And that tie of his, back when he still wore it anyways.

Minato’s mouth was slightly agape as he admired Spanner. He couldn’t recall having ever seen him dressed like this before. Especially with a master’s cape, how the gold trim shimmered underneath the light of the room.

He was handsome, gorgeous even.

Spanner looked so damn good in a suit. Minato was at a complete loss for words as he could feel his throat begin to get a little dry. He was unable to look away, and his thoughts began to wander off.

“Senpai?” Spanner’s voice cut through the daydreams that began to form in Minato’s mind and brought him back to earth. “Is there something wrong?”

“No.” Minato coughed as he put himself in order. “You look fantastic.”

The tiniest of smiles made its way to the edge of Spanner’s lips. “We should get going.”

There was no time for staring, there was a party to get over with. And Spanner was right. Getting there early was a good idea, especially if they wanted to please the council.

It was annoying how such a simple event required the two of them to play a game of mental chess to ensure their lives at work went as smoothly as possible… But this is what it was like working for the Association and actually attempting to speak up to make things better. Much to the chagrin of those in charge of the whole operation.

The venue was underground, beneath an unassuming fancy building. In order to enter it was the same as how one would get into the academy. One would use their ring and perform a chant. For this entrance some bookshelves would move aside and the door would manifest from the wall.

At first you’d find a hallway that branched various paths. The doors on the left and right would lead to various rooms. Alchemy labs, fancy offices, a whole underground library that was hailed as one of the best in the alchemist world. It all felt like something out of a movie.

This place was meant to be a multi-purpose center for alchemists, especially ones at the level of a master. Which explained the mishmash of various sorts of rooms. Each one had a completely different purpose than the last.

The door in the center lead into a stunning ballroom. Curtains adorned the walls, and Greek style pillars were also close by. In fact the room itself had a Greek theme going on, invoking a room of a time long past in alchemist history. Its ceiling went up high, which only made Minato wonder just how deep underground they were.

There were faux windows that simulated the outside time and weather with the power of alchemy. Image projection in specific.

Spanner personally thought it was all a little too gaudy for his tastes, similar to many of these secret alchemist event rooms he’d seen many over the years… But he kept his mouth shut.

Some attendees were already there, and countless more would be to come over the hours of the night. They could hear the chatter begin to bubble up around the room as they continued to walk inside and make their way towards an empty table to secure it for later.

Along the way Minato couldn’t take his eyes off Spanner. Catching glances of him in that suit whenever he could. Minato was obsessed with how he looked in it. Spanner was already a very attractive man, but him dressed like this only increased that tenfold to Minato.

Yes it wasn’t his style, but Spanner really should wear suits more often—

Once again Spanner’s voice cut off Minato’s train of thought. “Senpai. Are you okay?”

Right. Yes. The party.

“I’m quite alright, just got a little lost in thought.”

Spanner leaned in close and began to whisper. “I know this party is going to be boring as all hell, but we need to keep appearances. Try and stay focused.”

Once again he was right. While the other attendees may not pay any mind to it, the members of the council would be sure to notice either of them not putting in the effort to partake in the festivities. Which would only make them look worse in their eyes.

Minato began to write scripts of answers to questions he’d been asked before at such events in the past in his head. As long as he stayed focused and said the right things, the night would be over without a hitch.

He was also mentally preparing himself for whatever snide comments any members of the council would say. Especially pertaining to the process of him and the others capturing the Chemies, which was always something they scolded him about.

Not like they understood what went into the whole process anyways… Chemies were complex creatures. Capturing them all was never going to be an easy task. The fact they thought it wouldn’t take as long as it was going only proved how little they understood about them.

As always, he’d have to swallow his pride and just smile and nod along. For now he’d take things moment by moment, focused on the goal of just getting this ordeal over with.

Spanner had found himself surrounded by a couple other A-Rank alchemists. Minato could only guess what they were talking about, since he was at the other side of the room. Meanwhile he was talking with a few other Alchemist teachers from different branches of the academy from all across the world.

It was so interesting to him to hear how different things were, and also how much had stayed the same. It looked like Spanner and himself weren’t the only ones who were dealing with issues when it came to upper management.

Plus there was the fact of teaching at a normal school, and an alchemist school had so much overlap. More than one would initially expect…

“So how are things going with your students, Minato?” One of the group asked.

“We’ve been busy with capturing the chemies, as assigned to my class. But they’re bright students full of potential.” He smiled. “I know they’ll accomplish great things.”

Another person spoke up. “And that A-Rank graduate of yours?”

“Spanner? He glanced back over to Spanner as he sipped his own drink. Looking at the smile on his face as he talked to the others around him. Once again admiring just how good he looked in that suit… But right, the conversation at hand. “He’s been getting stronger and better at his craft each day himself.”

Another person spoke up. “That’s not what I’ve heard about his performance…”

Minato almost choked on his drink.

Just what was getting around about Spanner? Not only that, but potentially the rest of his class as well?! Because who knew if this gossip began and ended at Spanner alone. Was it the council that began to spread this? Or was it someone else entirely?

He had to keep his cool. Well, either way this was something new to keep him up at night. Not like he had enough reasons to barely get enough sleep anyways.

“Everyone has slumps.” Minato began, “But outside of combat, his skills have only been improving. I’m sure it will show with his combat alchemy as well in due time.”

Kept his cool, and had a smooth response. Nailed it.

“If you insist.” They muttered, sounding completely unconvinced as they walked away.

Minato could feel his brow begin to twitch, but then took a breath. He had to keep it together now. The words of random alchemists he’d never see again after tonight were of no consequence to him in the long-term.

But even if Spanner wasn’t his boyfriend, it would still piss him off to have heard that just as much. Nobody under his watch should be insulted like that. Minato took another sip of his drink and returned to talking with the others. Who thankfully were a lot more gracious towards those he taught and looked over.

It was multiple hours later into the night. From what Minato had overheard, ballroom dancing was going to happen sometime soon. The thought of dancing with Spanner began to cross his mind. And it was a very pleasant thought.

Though as nice as it would be to dance with his boyfriend, he also just wanted to go back home already.

But just a few more hours and then the two of them could leave this event alongside everyone else, and not get on the council’s bad side.

He sat at the table that they secured earlier. Spanner was still mingling with other alchemists, though this time a different group. Minato was impressed with how Spanner was able to keep this up. Because he was sure close to his limit by now.

Another sip of his drink, and his eyes made their way back to Spanner once more. Minato just couldn’t help it. He was so beautiful underneath the lights, and Minato couldn’t stop thinking about how good Spanner looked tonight. Plus with the cape alongside, he looked like a real alchemist.

And he looked really sexy on top of that…

Minato could begin to feel a small heat begin to spark within him as he continued to admire Spanner. Oh how he wished he could ditch this event, and do something much more fun with his boyfriend.

It was unwise to be having these sorts of thoughts in public with so many people around. Let alone his bosses. But Minato arrived to a point where he didn’t really care right now. His sense of reason was completely tossed aside. This party was dull as hell, and he wanted to indulge a little bit.

As his mind continued to wander, he began to have the aching need to just get on his knees and show Spanner a much better time than this boring old party.

Spanner just looked so damn fine in that suit, and it surprised Minato it took this long for him to form dirty thoughts about it. Granted he was focusing as best as he could to keep appearances as Spanner advised earlier. But clearly that focus began to run dry.

He looked over and remembered the countless rooms and hallways that surrounded this ballroom. Which gave him an idea. Perhaps, he could be able to sneak in some real fun and nobody besides the two of them would have to know about it…

Plus it would be a good way to pay Spanner back for his “help” during that meeting with the council he had a few weeks ago.

That was it. Without a second thought Minato got up and walked over to Spanner. Praying to whoever was listening that he did not have a visible hard-on in his pants right now.

He leaned and whispered in his ear, “Come with me.” Unable to hold back his desire as it seeped into his voice.

Spanner was a little taken aback as he noticed his tone. But Minato could see something spark within Spanner’s eyes as he spoke in his ear. Maybe despite his appearances, Spanner’s own ability to focus on this party was waning as well.

“Pardon me.” Spanner said as Minato took his hand, leading them outside into one of the rooms down the hall.

It was one of the dining rooms as seen by its own layout, fancy curtains hung up around the walls along with ornate wallpaper. But right now it was currently being used for storage, all of the usual furnishings put away.

With it being further away from the ballroom, there was less of a chance of them getting caught.

Not that the two minded a bit of risk here and there when it came to their encounters… But in this scenario it was for the best to minimize it as much as humanly possible.

Minato shut the door, and promptly put a chair underneath the door handle for some extra security. “There. That should be good.”

Spanner couldn’t stop himself from smirking. “Just couldn’t help yourself, hm?”

Minato looked over to Spanner, who could see the hunger in Minato’s eyes. “Not when you look as good as you do right now.” He walked over to Spanner and pinned him to the wall. Minato could see the excitement begin to blaze within Spanner’s own eyes. “Has anyone ever told you how sexy you look in a suit?”

“I can’t say it’s ever happened to me before.” Spanner slid his hand up to Minato’s cheek, softly stroking it. Minato leaned into the touch. “But I did see how you’ve been eyeing me this whole time.”

Minato gently kissed the palm of his hand, looking at him the whole time. Then their lips met. Kissing languidly as their hands roamed around the other, Minato pushed Spanner closer against the wall with another kiss to showcase just how much he needed him right now.

As they came up for air Minato’s hand moved down to Spanner’s crotch. Palming at the growing erection in his pants, which made Spanner arch back against the wall as a gasp left his lips.

Minato slid down, and he began to slowly open up his pants. The pace was near agonizing to Spanner. “It’s been so hard to focus tonight. I’ve wanted to show you a better time than this boring party all night.” Once his cock was freed, Minato looked at it hungrily.

This was the moment he’d been aching for hours for.

He looked up to Spanner, and the sight of Spanner still in his suit while he was down on his knees made his whole body shiver. It was even better than how he imagined it would be.

Spanner put a hand on Minato’s head and slowly stroked his hair. “Show it to me, Senpai.” The excitement and lust within his voice was palpable.

Minato began to take his cock into his mouth, and felt a strong sense of satisfaction as he heard Spanner let out a groan. He kept a steady pace as he sucked, his desire to give his boyfriend a real night to remember fueled him.

Spanner felt as if his body was on fire. It was incredible how Minato had such an effect on him. And to think about how Minato was eyeing him all night during this entire party, filled with thoughts of doing this to him… It only stoked that very fire within.

Spanner had begun to think he should dress like this more often. Especially if this was what was going to happen to him.

Minato looked up through his lashes as he licked from base to tip. Fuck. He was so gorgeous. On his knees and those pretty lips of his wrapped around his dick. It was already becoming harder and harder for Spanner to not just fuck Minato’s mouth senseless right then and there.

Though he was tempted to do just that, and knew Minato wouldn’t have minded as shown by previous sessions they had, he also wanted Minato to do what he’d been longing to do all night. So he held back the urge.

Minato kissed the tip of Spanner’s cock, then licked up the precome that slowly began to leak out. His tongue moved in circles across the head, and it felt so damn good. He was always so skilled at this.

All those years of experience truly showed in these moments.

“Fuck…” Spanner gripped Minato’s hair, slightly pulling at it as he went back to sucking. It made a small moan leave Minato’s lips, only adding more stimulation. He always enjoyed whenever his hair was pulled.

Spanner wanted Minato to feel good too, after all.

Minato began to take all of Spanner in his mouth. Spanner whimpered as he took him all in, feeling his tongue slide against his cock. As Minato got into a rhythm again, Spanner couldn’t hold back from doing small thrusts into Minato’s mouth. Which only made him moan more.

He looked up at Spanner again. Minato’s eyes were half-lidded and hazy, clouded with lust. He was so pretty, and it became hard for Spanner to keep himself together from witnessing such a sight.

Spanner came with a groan as his grip on Minato’s hair tightened.

Minato swallowed, still on his knees. As Spanner panted he could see Minato glowing as he was filled with a sense of self satisfaction in making Spanner feel good, and fulfilling his fantasy. “Mm. So much better than that party out there.”

“That was incredible.” Spanner spoke in between breaths, still panting.

Minato got up and pressed himself against his boyfriend as he laid his hands on his chest. Taking in and savoring the warmth of his body.

Spanner wrapped his arms around Minato with a soft smile. They stood there in silence for a little while, enjoying the company of each other as they embraced. Basking in the afterglow.

Minato spoke up with a gleam in his eye, “Have any more rounds in you?”

“Oh?” Spanner was intrigued yet again.

“It’s like I said…” He kissed Spanner’s once more, and let this one linger. “I just can’t help myself when you look so sexy.”

Yup. He should totally wear a suit more often.

Spanner swiftly turned Minato around and pressed him against the wall. “Then allow me this time.” He felt the desire to make his Senpai feel good now. Especially after such amazing head.

Now a flame began to blaze in Minato’s eyes as he shivered with excitement. “Please, go right ahead.”

The pair started to fix up their suits as well and their hair. Miraculously there was nothing that got on their suits, and they didn’t look too full of wrinkles. But even if things weren’t presentable it wasn’t nothing a little alchemy couldn’t fix up.

They were not enthused about going back to the party. Though at least they were still riding the emotional high of their session. Which would definitely help them make it through that final stretch of it all.

Just as they were about to leave, they began to hear ballroom music echo from across the hall. A soft melody leaked into the room through the walls of the room. It looked to be time for ballroom dancing, as Minato heard about earlier.

…Maybe a little bit more fun of a different kind could be had before they went back.

Spanner held out his hand to Minato. “May I have this dance?”

Minato smiled, and the warmth within his eyes made Spanner nearly melt onto the floor. It was the moments such as this one that he cherished the most, and reminded him just how much he loved Minato, and was forever grateful to have him in his life.

“I would love to.” Minato slid his hand into Spanner’s as they began to dance.

Hand in hand they moved to the music. Spanner had enough experience from past events over the years he had to attend to be able to keep up with Minato as they danced. They had plenty of room to move around thanks to much of the furniture being put away for storage.

Yes, they could dance in the ballroom with everyone else. But they liked to keep their relationship on the down-low. Plus they weren’t in the mood to deal with any potential looks from the council. Who at this point learned of their relationship, but weren’t entirely enthused about it.

Which was quite rich— coming from some of them and who they were in relationships with.

But on top of that: It also felt so much more special, to dance together alone with nobody else around to watch them. A moment for only the two of them to enjoy and remember.

They continued to dance and make their way around the room. As the music swelled, Spanner dipped Minato and kissed him. Much to his surprise and delight.

It was gentle and sweet, and Minato savored every moment of it. To endure all of those boring moments waiting around for the party to end, and those difficult conversations he had to navigate— It had been totally worth it in the end.

And he knew Spanner felt the same.

As they did their final goodbyes for the night, a wave of relief washed over the pair knowing it was all finally over. Though certain things, secrets for only the two of them, made this event one to remember. And for the right reasons.

Once they made it back to Spanner’s apartment, the two were beat. Even if things had turned around for them at the end, it was still something that took a ton of energy out of them.

They flopped onto the couch, too tired to walk the few extra steps it took to get into Spanner’s room. So they opted to just sleep on the couch for tonight.

Minato rested his head on Spanner’s shoulder. Spanner could see and feel Minato begin to loosen up. The tension from the party began to leave both of their bodies. Both of them sat together in comfortable silence as they slowly began to drift off into sleep.

“Spanner…” Minato spoke up, intertwining his hand with Spanner’s. He sounded a little sleepy too. It was cute.

Spanner brushed a stray hair out of his face with his free hand. “Yes?”

Minato snuggled into Spanner’s neck, “I love you.”

Spanner rested his head next to Minato’s as felt a warmth begin to bloom in his chest. “I love you too, Senpai.”

End Notes: This fic has been in the works for over a month! I'm really happy with how it turned out and it feels nice to see it completed. The idea bit at me and then I had to make it happen.

I was originally going to add a sex scene after the bj, but my brain struggled with that due to being blocked so it didn't happen. Though I can always make a separate fic continuing that scene and going into that in the future... We'll see! :3 I've been pretty blocked for the past few months and while I have been writing it's been a struggle for a lot of it. Though hopefully it looks to be getting better now. (Knock on wood.)
