Rinne should have expected chemy hunting to go hours into the night at some point. It was inevitable. Especially with how persistent some could get…
She was teamed up with Renge as they went deeper into the forest. Sabimaru and Hotaro were elsewhere and looking for a completely different one. Together they used their rings to light the way forward as they continued to search, bug nets in hand.
Luckily the chemy they were looking for was Pikahotaru, whose own light it emitted made it easy to spot from a distance.
“Star-scholar, look!” Renge yelled out, preparing her net.
The chemy fluttered around next to a pond. The soft glow of its light shimmered across the water. Accompanied by normal fireflies, their own lights sparkling across the water alongside it. It was a truly beautiful sight.
But there wasn’t any time to gawk, they had to focus on the matter at hand. “Back me up Icho-senpai.” Rinne slowly sneaked forwards as Renge nodded, preparing the ChemyRiser while Rinne took careful steps towards the chemy.
With a swift swing of the net, Pikahotaru was caught without any hassle. And it was just as quickly brought back into its card by Renge.
“We did it!” Renge had a wide grin. That stunning smile, alongside the lights of the fireflies dancing around… It all made Rinne’s heart flutter. “Ya did great star-scholar!” She patted Rinne’s shoulder.
A small smile made its way to Rinne’s lips. “Thank you.”
They both took a moment to admire the sights around them. One that was truly postcard worthy. Perhaps it would be a good idea to just take a moment to enjoy it, before making their way back to the academy.
That was when Renge took her hand in Rinne’s.
She looked surprised for a moment, not expecting the sudden touch. But Rinne eased into it as the pair intertwined their fingers. They took a moment to breathe, and enjoy the beauty around them in silence for a while.
After a few minutes of basking in the nature around them it was time to go. Not only did they have to get the chemy back to the others, but it was getting late.
“Do ya wanna stay at my place tonight?” Renge asked, breaking the silence of their walk back to the academy. “It’s real dark out, and I got a spare bed.”
Renge did live closer to the Academy than she did. Plus Rinne could sense that feeling of sleepiness slowly creeping its way towards her. It would be a good idea.
“Sure. Thank you Senpai.”
“Great!” Renge’s eyes lit up, and the excitement was contagious.
