Summary: Goro prepares a meal for Kitaoka.
Also On: Ao3, Dreamwidth
It was a slow day. Kitaoka had done all his scheduled cases for the week. It was a busy and hectic week for him: back-to-back meetings and calls relating to each case, not to mention each case as well. But as always, he won them all, continuing to prove his super-lawyer status.
Meanwhile for Goro, he did his errands for the day: getting the groceries and doing other various secretarial tasks. And right now he was preparing dinner for Kitaoka. Soft music played throughout the house as he worked on food preparation.
Outside of Kitaoka’s cases and other day-to-day ongoings, the week had been rather uneventful.
No battles between riders taking place—at least none that Kitaoka found himself in the midst of anyway. A week like this was a rarity ever since he’d become Zolda.
As Goro prepared the seafood and put the spaghetti to the side, he glanced over to where Kitaoka’s desk was down the hall, taking a look to make sure things were alright before beginning to cook.
The two of them had moved some more of their boxes in earlier. Various pieces of furniture still needed to be set up, and some spots still needed more furnishing. The process of moving everything in was still ongoing, but bit-by-bit this house became more and more of a home.
Instead of doing some work at his desk like Goro guessed he was doing, Kitaoka was fast asleep, right on the couch that they set up a couple weeks ago.
It was a scene that only Goro had the privilege of seeing. Kitaoka’s limbs were laid a bit lazily across the couch. Beams of sunshine from the windows shone down across that area, leaving some warmth after what was a pretty chilly day. His expression was one with a smile, one of serenity and comfort.
Seeing such a peaceful expression spread across Kitaoka’s face as he was deep in his sleep, Goro couldn’t help but smile. He was always grateful for moments like this.
Especially now.
This moment being so quiet and peaceful was a stark contrast to the multiple battles Kitaoka would take part in, which were seemingly never ending. Seeing Kitaoka fight… The image was seared into his mind.
Goro could never forget it, no matter how much Kitaoka would have wanted him to, if he knew.
The clangs of metal. The grunts from hitting, from being hit. Seeing Kitaoka be knocked down. The ever-present nature of a battle lingering in each moment—how any fight could very well end up being your last.
But despite that, Kitaoka still had to fight. The luxury of just putting this war behind him was something he could never afford. His life was on the line.
So it all made Goro cherish these moments of downtime even more.
In the meantime he’d do everything he possibly could, staying by Kitaoka’s side the entire way, to help assure his victory. To make his wish come true. His devotion to this cause, and to Kitaoka himself, knew no bounds.
Even if he’d tell Goro to go somewhere else, to have a chance at a more normal life… Not even for a second would he ever entertain the thought of leaving his side. It wasn’t happening.
Goro was here because he wanted to be, plain and simple. And nothing would ever change this.
He did everything within his power to support the man he devoted himself to protecting and helping. The man that he loved. Goro would be with him through thick and thin, doing whatever he could.
And in this exact moment, he knew that the best thing he could do was to prepare his Sensei a delicious meal.
That was exactly what he was going to do. Turning his attention back to the meal, that was exactly what he was going to do. Humming the song that was playing to himself with a pleased smile, as he enjoyed the aroma of the vegetables cooking. He knew this recipe was one of Kitaoka’s favorites.
And Goro was excited to see him enjoy it.
Cooking was not only one of the ways Goro would support Kitaoka and everything he did, but it was also one of the ways he’d show his love to him. It was his favorite method of doing so too.
Walking over to the couch to wake him up, Goro was stopped by the sight of Kitaoka resting so peacefully in his sleep. He already looked so at ease from across the hall, but to see it up close… It was different: his gentle breathing, all of the small movements of his chest going up and down with each breath. There were stray strands of hair that laid across his face, something you wouldn’t ever see if you caught Kitaoka in public, given how he took great care and pride in his appearance.
The thought of Kitaoka feeling comfortable and safe enough to allow himself to be like this, to be so deep in his sleep, getting as much rest as he needed, allowing himself to be this vulnerable. Goro was by his side after all, and would protect him and not allow harm to even glance his way. It made Goro’s heart absolutely melt on the spot.
Just what was Kitaoka dreaming? He could only wonder. But whatever it was, it looked like it was a pleasant one.
Goro almost didn’t want to wake him from the dream he was having, to interrupt what looked to be such a peaceful slumber. But it was around dinner time, and Kitaoka would want Goro to let him know.
“Sensei, it’s time for dinner.” Goro spoke gently, brushing Kitaoka’s stray hairs to the side.
Slowly, Kitaoka opened his eyes, looking up at Goro with an expression that was a mixture of adoration and sleepiness.
Raising his arms back in a stretch, he said, “Thank you Goro-chan.” He let out a quiet noise while stretching, then sat upright on the couch. Rubbing his eyes before looking up at Goro again, he said, “What’s on the menu for today?”
“Seafood pasta.”
Instantly he perked up, and became much more awake. While there was still a slight bit of sleepiness in his expression, his eyes shone with complete adoration, looking at Goro with a loving gaze. It was just adorable and heartwarming how even the smallest gestures Goro would do for Kitaoka would brighten him up so quickly like this.
And how could he not be excited? A home-cooked meal from Goro-chan was always something Kitaoka looked forward to. This was something that was long since established.
But each and every time, it still made Goro feel immense amounts of joy to know just how much he loved it.
And the smile Kitaoka made—it was more than enough to melt away any worries Goro could have had in the very depths of the back of his mind right now.
“Oh, Goro-chan, you spoil me.” He spoke sweetly, leaning in to plant a gentle kiss on Goro’s cheek. He could feel how Goro’s cheeks got a little warm.
After a moment of pause, a smile made its way across his lips. He placed a hand on his cheek, smiling more as Goro leaned into the touch. His thumb gently stroked across Goro’s cheek as he gave him another kiss, and another… enthusiastically showering him with kisses.
Kitaoka could feel how Goro’s cheeks warmed up a bit more from the waves of affection that he was giving him. And Goro didn’t mind. Far from it.
But as much as he would love to have this go on, to spend all the time in the world to kiss Kitaoka back in kind with just as much enthusiasm on display, there was a hot meal waiting on the dinner table.
“Sensei,” he spoke up. “If we take too long, your food will start to get cold.” He gave Kitaoka a fond smile.
Kitaoka paused, thoughtfully looking over at the table and then back at Goro. He grinned again, wrapping his arms around Goro’s neck, and whispered in his ear with a playful twinge in his voice, “Dinner can wait a few minutes.”
He promptly pulled them both right back down onto the couch together. Kitaoka picked right back up from where he left off, with Goro returning the favor not long after.
