Man that gotchard episode. It did so much for Spanner as a character I’m kinda going nuts.

Spanner has the same goal as Hotaro: to protect the world. To protect all living beings in it. But unlike Hotaro, he is an adult and must make adult choices. Feeling making the sacrifice he must make is what he must do… That’s what being an adult is, right? Right?

There is no time for youthful ideals to him. This is a serious matter and must be taken care of accordingly… He sees that in order to protect the world something has to go in order for that to be achieved. While Hotaro wants to accomplish this without any sacrifices being made.

Their end goals are the same… but the paths to get there are so very different. Hotaro believes it can be done without a sacrifice, while Spanner sees there is no other way to achieve peace. He’s an adult, and Hotaro is just going on about his youthful ideals again to Spanner.

And because of this, Spanner feels the must go about this their separate ways… Going down their own paths. Paths he feels that cannot converge despite the end goals being the same.

One of youthful ideals. And the other of what Spanner perceives to be the adult way of handling this.

One day I'll make an unhinged essay around spanner too because I find him so interesting. Being in this inbetween of the real adults of the cast and the kids and how he's forcing himself to be a “real adult”.

And he is part of the adults in a way. But is also not mentally as mature as the others. He acts cool and mature but when things don't end up going how he hopes he has a tendency to lash out or act arrogant. He refuses to engage with his youth and it ends up biting him later on via during the fight with Hotaro.

Hotaro reaches answers on how to truly go about the situation before he does. (Because Spanner's original plan is so self desctructive.)

Anyways I think spanner is a very solid character.
